HISTORY

425 Years Ago –

Aeson Corporation was founded by the United States Government. Their aim was to find other ways to survive off Earth. They started studying Dyson Spheres and the longest living stars (Red Dwarfs and White Dwarfs). Along with this they studied terraforming and using it on the Dyson Sphere.

415 Years Ago –

After a decade of research, production started on Project: Lupos. In their research they found that Red Dwarfs were not viable options to build Dyson Spheres around. This led them to the nearest White Dwarf called Sirius B (8.6 light years away). This is where they decided to build the sphere. It was predicted that it could take anywhere between 80-100 Years to complete not including complications. They would mine resources from the asteroid belt and these resources would be sent to the sphere after the transport ships were completed. They would be picked up on the 18 Year trip, a pick up on the way to Sirius and the other on the return to Earth. The ships would have to return to Earth for fuel and general ship repairs.

395 Years Ago -

The first ship was built to transport resources to the Sphere. A mining vessel. The ship was equipped with food, water and oxygen farms for those planning to make the 18-year-round trip.

394 Years Ago-

The ship was fit for making the 18-year trip to Sirius B. Each trip would provide 1/5th of the sphere.

380 Years Ago-

The second ship was completed.

377 Years Ago-

The first supply run was a success with the ship returning safely to Earth.

376 Years Ago-

Ship underwent routinely maintenance. Both ships were stocked with resources and sent out on the second supply run to the sphere. Making up 3/5th of the resources needed for the spheres completion.

370 Years Ago-

Aeson Corp lost funding from the government to continue the project after a leak showed Aeson Corp working on projects that weren’t discussed in the contract. This put on hold their plans of expanding their ship numbers and the terraforming project. They were told to let the ships complete their journey but would not be allowed to send out the final set out resources until they revaluated the company.

367 Years Ago-

Aeson Corp went rogue, working undercover from the government and seeking funding from other major companies they restarted Project Lupos. However, they would only be allowed to complete the sphere and would not have funding to create more ships or the terraforming project until after its completion. As they never returned their robots working on mining the asteroid belt throughout the years they had enough excess resources to cover the 6 Years of damage.

356 Years Ago-

Both ships successfully return to Earth.

355 Years Ago-

Both ships had undergone maintenance and repairs, they were ready to be sent out on their final supply trip to the sphere.

337 Years Ago –

Both ships safely returned to Earth. Later in the year an unpredicted event occurred. A Gamma ray burst. It hit the Eastern Hemisphere completely scorching that side of the planet. The ozone was completely destroyed, giving the rest of the planet days to live. Plants died first, everything was starting to become unbearably hot, people were burning up just walking outside and those who didn’t would eventually contract skin cancer. By the second day most people had gone pretty much blind, majority of the plants were dying and now most of the animals were too, depleting the oxygen. By the third day, everyone was either dead or seriously ill.

Day One –

A broadcast was sent out to people saying that they had 2 ships prepared to transport them to the sphere. However only the first HEALTHY 5000 people would be saved. Aeson Corp loaded all the DNA they had collected so far onto the ship, this was collected for the terraforming project.

Day Two –

They started letting people onto the ships ready to leave Earth keeping them safe from the outside. Riots had started between people for spots on the ships.

Day Three –

The ships have departed for their 9 Year journey to the Sirius system. Taking 5000 people to a new home, leaving what’s left of humanity to die out on Earth.

331 Years Ago-

3 years before the arrival in the Sirius system, it was recorded that there was a complication with the Sphere. An asteroid had hit part of the sphere destroying a portion of the robots working on it and a large section of the panels were destroyed or damaged. This had set back the progress of the completion by 6 Years. One of the ships would need to travel back to collect the resources and the robots at the asteroid belt, making the journey last an extra 15 Years. The ships didn’t have enough energy reserves to last this long and would need more energy to power the ships, the closet source was the White Dwarf inside the Dyson Sphere. The ships promised to wait and conserve their energy to split their remaining power and make it to the sphere. After a voting system between those part of Aeson Corp they moved people into groups, those consider not top priority were put onto the ship that would collect the resources in case the worst happened, and they were unable to save them. There were many fights between the people when it was being decided but a promise was made to save the people on the ship no matter what.

324 Years Ago-

Those on the ship that weren’t making the journey had a malfunction which depleted a large amount of their energy reserves. Unfortunately, they had to abandon their position and make the journey to the white dwarf to refill their energy reserves, this meant they wouldn’t reach the other ship in time to save them and they would be lost.

321 Years Ago-

The surviving ship arrived in the Sirius System and began to refill their energy reserves while offloading the resources.

320 Years Ago-

The resources are offloaded and their energy refilled the ship returns to find the second.

317 Years Ago-

A mission was conducted to retrieve all the resources off the ship including the mining robots, those who went in came back different after seeing so many people dead.

314 Years Ago-

The ship arrived back at the Dyson Sphere. They offloaded the resources and changed the robots to help finish building the sphere.

259 Years Ago –

The Dyson Sphere was finally completed. There was still a citadel to build, the farmland for food and water and the artificial atmosphere to make. They modified some of the robots for mining and the others for building, these robots would mainly help produce the artificial soil needed for the buildings to be built upon. The mining robots were to be sent back to the asteroid belt to mine resources for buildings on Lupos. The remaining robots started to make both Pylons with the excess resources. This would power the artificial atmosphere however, this meant another 18-year-round trip until they would be able to live on Lupos.

241 Years Ago –

The arrives back at Lupos. With both Pylons completed and artificial atmosphere working they started work on the first major city around the North Pylon along with the food and water farms at the South Pylon.

221 Years Ago-

After manual labour and help from the remaining robots the farms around the South Pylon were completed.

200 Years Ago-

The citadel was completed. Humanity was finally able to live on Lupos. 1/3 of the population was sent to the South Pylon to work there the remaining 2/3s taking up residence within the citadel.

Present Day –

This is where the story ‘The Sheltered Path’ is set.
